A severely brain-damaged 9-year-old girl in Washington state will never grow breasts, never have children and never grow beyond her current size.

All because technology has allow her to remain forever young. According to news reports, her breasts have been removed, along with her uterus and appendix. Growth hormones, meanwhile, have stunted her growth.

The case is creating a roiling ethical debate, especially in the wake of the father’s posting a statement defending his decision. (more…)
