The G-Pop

When I was doing my strange sex toy reviews, the G-Pop would have been a good addition.  Not that it is bizarre like the replica Wolf Penis I reviewed, or blasphemous like the Jackhammer Jesus, or even fantastical like the Dragon’s Tongue… But, it definitely is not what I ever expected a G-spot dildo to look like.  In fact, when I first saw it I was sure it was a percussion toy.

So a G-Pop is basically a sex toy with a long steel rod having a plastic handle on one end and a heavy steel ball on the other.  It comes in different sizes: 1.5″, 2″ and 2.38″ diameters and various colors.  The manufacturers, Steel Vineyards, also make them in gemstone varieties as well.  Mine came in Cherry Red with a 2” diameter, which is very large, heavy and hard as hell.  It is a heavy metal dildo that will either rock your G-spot to bliss, or leave you in serious pain.

When I first got my G-Pop it sat on my desk and I used it for percussion to massage my shoulders.  It worked very well bouncing lightly off my shoulder muscles, but you have to be extremely careful not to hit the bone (even lightly) as you could seriously hurt yourself.  My partner didn’t like the feeling of it as a percussion toy, saying it wigged him out.  I think two of these would make ideal percussion toys together on the soft cushions of the butt, playing the flesh like a xylophone.

Percussion play is not the G-Pop’s intended purpose, however.  It is meant to be inserted, like a dildo and rocked or pumped to excite the G-spot.  Well, I thought I could handle a 2” diameter of unyielding steel.  After all, the large end of my NJoy Pure Wand is 1 ½”, so I didn’t think an extra ½” would be anything to worry about.  I’m afraid I was wrong.

I first applied my new G-spot gel, Shunga’s Rain of Love arousal gel to my G-spot.  I then lubed the G-Pop up well and began rubbing it around my vulva and slowly inserting it.  No go. I obviously needed some extra stimulation to get more aroused.  I grabbed my trusty lusty plug-in massager the Fairy Wand and went to work on my clit, while my partner slowly rolled and twisted the G-Pop at the opening of my vagina.  Every time it almost went in, it felt like my pelvic bone was going to crack and my G-Spot burned painfully.  We tried this for a while to no avail.  I couldn’t insert the G-Pop without feeling pain, tensing up and popping it out.  Holy mother-fucker and did it hurt! The worst of it was, I was afraid if I did manage to get it inside, I would never get it out.  I imagined a trip to the emergency room with this thing sticking out of me, and well, it freaked me out.

While I have tried many sex toys in the name of “science” (Ha!), I am not willing to undergo pain or fear for a review.  I read both AAG’s and Essin’ Em’s reviews of the G-Pop, and while they both had to carefully work it in, they both did manage to insert the toy and both found it exquisite once inside.  AAG had the largest one and Essin’ Em the smallest.  So, while the G-Pop didn’t fit me in the 2” size, it would obviously fit other people.  I have a small vagina and I’ve never had kids, so 2” was way too large for me.  I do know that had I got the 1 ½” that it would have fit, because after trying unsuccessfully to insert the G-Pop, I got my NJoy Pure Wand out and the large end slid easily inside me, making me squirt uncontrollably. (My reward to undergoing the G-Pop pain!)

I still think that the G-Pop is a pretty groovy, unique sex toy.  I would still love to try the 1 ½”, and from now on will keep that in mind when getting new toys.

You can get your own G-Pop in various sizes at SexToy.com from “virgin” to “adventurous” to “masochist”!

Sex Toys | Dildos

Several years ago the first Nubby G came out (it was actually named the Crystal Jelly G-Spot, but then renamed and repackaged because phthalates in sex toys were becoming a growing concern).  I had one of those pretty clear jelly gassing-off beauties send to me by a sex shop for review and used it too, long before I knew the potential hazards of jelly toys.  I did notice that it smelt bad however, and that it was a bit slick and sticky and coated with what I assumed was lube.  This turned out to be chemical goo, but I had learned this much too late.  I was pretty naïve then when it came to sex toys, and this was only the third toy I had ever owned.

This is the old Nubby G.  It is a good thing the internet doesn’t have scratch and sniff

Then, in 2001, the German magazine, Stern, hired toxicologists to test the safety of certain sex toy materials. They were alarmed to find a high concentration of phthalates (100 times the acceptable European standard) in many of the sex toys they tested. I found out about this through another sex store that I was then reviewing for when they wrote about it on their Buyer Beware pages.  One of the products they pointed to which was at the time a big seller was the Nubby G.  I was alarmed myself after reading this, and found the offending dildo/vibe in a drawer where it had been stored for some time.  Luckily, I had only ever used it once or twice because the smell of it grossed me out.  I sent the toy to the landfill (but should have had a burning ceremony with it) and said good riddance.  I hadn’t thought about that toy for a long time, the one that introduced me to phthalates and jelly sex toys.

That was until Babeland came out with their own Babeland Nubby G, just recently.  Now, to clarify, the Babeland Nubby G is not made of jelly.  It is made of TPR Plastic or Thermoplastic Rubber.  TPR Plastic is a relatively new compound that is phthalate-free and non-toxic. Like silicone and other hard sex toys it is non-porous, yet light-weight, very soft, flexible and durable.

This is the Babeland Nubby G. See the difference?

So, I admit I was curious to try this new Nubby G that had the same shape as the old one that was such a best-seller, but made of safe materials.  Back when I had the first one, I wasn’t as aware of my G-spot as I am now, so never really knew how to use it to stimulate myself properly.  Today, while I am no G-spot expert, I can stimulate my G-spot to ejaculation with a good G-spot toy in a matter of minutes.

So what makes for a good or effective G-spot toy?  There are so many on the market it is hard to decide.  There are three design elements that I look for in a good G-spot toy, which I have learned through experience work for me and most people I know.  First is the G-spot curve.  A good G-spot toy will have a G-spot curve in which the tip of the toy curves from a C-shape to almost a right angle.  This angle allows the toy to better position itself to reach the G-spot once inserted into the vagina.  The G-spot is located on the front wall of the vagina, just behind the pelvic bone and near the bladder, so this curve is important for the toy to be able to stimulate the area easily.  Second is the firmness of material.  Hard materials like glass, metal, wood and firm silicone (or TPR) are perfect for applying pressure to the G-spot.  One of the things that the G-spot loves best it firm pressure.  Third, is not what the toy requires, but what it doesn’t require: length.  Because the G-spot is only 1-2 inches inside the vagina, a toy with a 3 inch end is quite long enough to stimulate the G-spot.  The last thing that is a nice addition, but not necessary, is vibration.

So how does the Babeland Nubby G measure up?  The first thing I noticed about it is that it didn’t smell like my old one.  In fact it looks, smells and feels just like silicone.  It has a great G-spot curve, is short and stubby, very firm, waterproof and also features fairly good vibration.  So, it is ideal for the G-spot.  It also has a nubby clitoral stimulator half way down the base that does manage to stimulate that area as well.  This is something that I often find many toys boast, but rarely accomplish.  For me, it worked great for dual stimulation, resulting in a quick squirting session that left me in tears.  (Some times G-spot orgasms can be a bit emotional and overwhelming.  Always in a good way though!)

Although the Babeland Nubby G might not replace the Curve [my review] as my favorite G-spot toy, it is a close second.  It is a wonderful little G-spot toy at a great price and is sure to make your G-spot smile!
