Only two more days to KinkForAll New York City 2!
*You should expect: *
–A prompt start. The event opens at 11:00am. We’ll have half an hour of set-up, and begin speaking at 11:30 sharp.
–A casual atmosphere. Dress comfortably, wear shoes you can move easily in. We have rooms across three floors. Every room is elevator accessible.
–Collaboration and spontaneity. If you get the urge to lead a discussion or have an idea you want to present, put it on the schedule grid and wing it.
–No nudity, no play. Our venue prohibits nudity and this event is not an appropriate play space.
–Personal autonomy. You’re welcome to come and go from the event as you please. If you get into a great conversation with someone new, you can always step ’round the corner for a coffee and join in again later on.
–Flexible presentation scheduling, but with a strict time frame. The schedule grid will allow presentations to be easily moved and shuffled as necessary. We will start and end each presentation on time.
–A very fast pace. Presentations are 20 minutes each. There is NO DOWN TIME between presentations. Read on to learn more about this.
–Cameras, computers, and audio and video recording equipment. KinkForAll *encourages* documentation of its events. If you do not wish to be photographed, we will have brightly colored nametags available for you to
wear to indicate this.
–A strong support staff. I and other volunteers will be keeping things on schedule and managing issues as they arise. If you cannot manage something yourself, you are welcome to turn to us.
Specifically, I will be acting as a point of contact with the Center, and being a mediator for any issues you may have. Maja is also an appropriate contact person to work the the Center, so bring any venue concerns to me, or
to her.
*You should bring: *
–Energy and your lovely selves.
–Kink/queer/sexuality-related material you’d like to swap, trade, give away, or showcase. Have some old books you don’t want any more? Bring them! Please remember this is NOT about selling stuff. Kink For All is not a commercial event.
–Anything you think might help us be a better event. Food, water, equipment. Anything you like. (See the Needs List). Set things up yourself if you can. If you need help, ask the person next to you!

*More on 20 minute presentations*
As I said, presentation slots at Kink For All are 20 minutes long, and there is no down time between presentations. We’re running at least 5 presentation spaces simultaneously with 3 slots each per hour. In the event that we do not have 5 presentations running concurrently, the extra space will revert to social space for that 20 minutes.
If you’re planning to present, remember that your 20 minutes includes setting up, introduction, presentation, questions, and wrapping up. A volunteer will announce the transition of each session. If one presentation runs into the time slot of another, it will be cut short to keep us running on time.
If you’re asking yourself how you can fit a typical presentation into 20 minutes, the answer is, you can’t.
We’re asking you to break the form you may be used to, and try a very different approach. Get to the heart of the issue you’d like to address, and cut out everything extraneous. This short form makes it difficult to do things like teach new skills from beginning to end. The form is ideal, however, for pointing out and expounding upon one key idea. Rather than rush through several different points, focus.
If 20 minutes seems impossibly short to you, remember that radical ideas can be powerfully expressed in simple, straightforward language. And please, read more about this on our FAQ page.
Best,
Sara Eileen
