I Hear America Singing

Jan 20th, 2025 by Viviane

by Walt Whitman

I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear,

Those of mechanics, each one singing his, as it should be, blithe and strong,

The carpenter singing his, as he measures his plank or beam,

The mason singing his, as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,

The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat, the deckhand singing on the steamboat deck,

The shoemaker singing as he sits on his bench, the hatter singing as he stands,

The woodcutter’s song, the ploughboy’s on his way in the morning, or at the noon intermission, or at sundown,

The delicious singing of the mother, or of the young wife at work, or of the girl sewing or washing,

Each singing what belongs to her, and to none else,

The day what belongs to the day—at night, the party of young fellows, robust, friendly,

Singing, with open mouths, their strong melodious songs.

I cried. I was teaching, and I got finished just in time to go out to one of the hallway computers and get onto cnn to see his swearing in. My boss and I hugged each other and i teared up like a huge baby.

and in other news, didja happen to pull the lottery for the DO:WF tickets?

No, I need to do that stat!

stat? eehhh? Sorry, I’m really hoping and pulling. getting the free ticket and finding out soon-ish could make the weekend cost me around 200 bucks. Not getting the free ticket means I’ll have to wait another 2 weeks to get paid, then buy a ticket, then try to find a way to get a room with someone or be forced to purchase my own hotel room at the higher rate, 200 bucks to a possible 700 bucks… I’m a little anxious…

In other news, I hated making lists but always loved coloring as a kid, so when people asked me to fill out that bdsm kink list, I never could finish it. Where as I saved the map, grayscaled it, then colored it in again, so it was kinda like a kink list for kids who like to color. http://www.ammre.org/annesmap.jpg It was way fun. The thought of purchasing one is floating across my brain, but unfortunately, I still live with my mom so I wouldn’t be able to put it up.
