Right, so remember on Grey’s Anatomy when O’Malley got “the syph?” Maybe his little girlfriend was banging a dude from Dallas.

Dallas health officials are warily watching a troubling increase in syphilis infections, which so far this year are well above the number that would be expected.

During the first six months of 2006, 113 people in the county were treated for primary and secondary syphilis, the most infectious stages of the disease. For all of 2005, the number was 170.

San Francisco has the highest reported rate of syphilis infections, followed by Atlanta, Baltimore, New Orleans and St. Louis.
