So, after spending the majority of my time at social events recapping the funny/touching/bizarre stories I bring home from work, my friends finally convinced me to start a blog to share some of these experiences with the rest of the world. After giving it some thought, I decided it probably wasn’t such a bad idea. I mean, there’s a blog out there for everything, so why not shed a little light onto what it’s like to work in the sex industry in NYC…
Currently I am a passion consultant at one of the finest erotic boutiques in the city, which in laymen’s terms means that I spend my days counseling people on which dildo would best suit their purposes, and which lubes are “slippery” versus “moist.” Aside from that, I also sell advertising for an alternative porn website, meaning one of those new sites that popped up to create porn for those that like girls with tattoos, piercings, and abnormally colored hair. My jobs put me into sometimes strange but always enlightening situations with fascinating people. The people that I meet tell me things they would never dream of confessing to their friends or partners, even though they have known me for all of 15 seconds. Sometimes it’s a little bizarre to be privvy to such intimate details of a stranger’s life, but here in NYC it’s kind of difficult to draw the line between what’s private and what’s acceptable for public consumption.
So here’s my story of the sex industry in the gritty city…
